Like, really smells. Necrotic wounds, C. diff, GI bleeds, the lingering aroma of a UTI… we’ve smelled it all. And don’t even get us started on the halitosis battles dental hygienists face daily. Assisted living facilities? That’s a whole other level of olfactory warfare. As healthcare professionals, we were on the front lines—holding our breath, walking out of rooms, shoving whatever we could find into our masks just to survive. We lived it. And we were done.
Travel isn’t much better.
Recycled airplane air. Questionable seatmates. Surprise in-flight gas attacks. Flying is stressful enough without playing nasal roulette in seat 27B.
We tried it all
Nose plugs? Torture devices. Anti-stink balm? Sticky and gross. Coffee beans? Cute idea, but not subtle. Alcohol swabs? Effective, until your eyes start watering. Toothpaste in the mask? Look, we admire the hustle—but come on. And anything applied directly to the mask ruins the filter.
